From gaining playability of deteriorates tapes, to equipment choice and correct replay, to issues of digital restoration, a number of examples will be outlined, and common problems will be covered in depth. Correct alignment of analogue tape machines will be presented as well, with a special focus on the replay path. The participants will have the chance to ask questions and discuss the various problems in daily audio preservation work.

6. Restoration of a heavily degraded tape, suffering from dirty contaminations, mould, various other signs of ageing
- Explanation of the necessary steps
- Demonstration of tape cleaning, splice repair, and other issues
- Rewinding and preparing the tape for transfer
- Adjusting the parameters
- Transfer of a part of the tape, to show the audible result
